Sustainable Genetics

At Genus ABS we are dedicated to partnering with farmers to all sizes, to transform how they nourish the world through genetics. one of our pillars..

Dairy farming has become very popular in the last few decades. Those days are gone when the farmers spent many hours milking cows one by one. They also spent many hours mowing the lawn for their livestock. It took them a long time to make the grass grow. Advances in technology have allowed dairy farmers to improve the quality of life of their flocks. Check out some of the modern developments in the dairy industry and how our farmers are working hard to ensure the health of their flock:

Advancement in Milking Animals

These days in Pakistan the average dairy farmer uses a vacuum system to milk the cows. This system allows for multiple cows to be milked at the same time. These milking machines are made of soft rubber or silicone, which ensures the comfort of the cows during milking. The vacuum in a milk machine gently pulsates on a cow’s teats and draws milk from the udder. It takes between five to six minutes to milk a cow using this system so these milking machines also save time. Advantages of using this machine is that it is safer than hand milking because it does not hurt the cows as the teats are in contact with rubber liners whereas, routine fingernails hurt the cattle’s teats. These machines also help in saving labor expenses.

Advancement in Machines

When it comes to equipment used by dairy farmers, it is not just for milking. Additional farm equipment is needed to harvest, store, and transport milk forage, as well as to generate energy for the dairy farming process.Generally, large generators are required to supply power to all of the milking equipment and environmental controls. Some of the equipment that are used in the dairy farms for fodder are fodder trucks, compacting presses, block machines, and chaff cutters etc. Moreover, loader tractors, feed grinders, milk cans, tagging equipment and many more are also very important machinery used in the dairy industry.

Advancement in Animal Health

Many dairy farms use advanced technology to maintain the health of the herds and milk production. Farmers can now manage production and animal health through computers and mobile applications. They use ultrasound and X-Ray machines to detect diseases in animals. Advancement in genes has also revolutionized the dairy industry, with farmers making huge profits because it helps them to increase the yield of milk and meat with a low number of animals.

Sustainability

The reality of dairy farming is that it often involves recycling. Animal manure is returned to fields, which allows nutrients to improve soil health and increase the nutritive value of plants. Beyond regular farm practices, farmers are continuously making efforts towards sustainability. By focusing on sustainable farming practices, dairy farmers have learned how to improve genetics to produce more milk from a few cows and to reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses produced per kilogram of milk. Advancements in genetic technology have bred more efficient cows than ever before and show promises of even better breeds in the future.

Future And Conclusion

This advancement in technology has helped the farmers to a great extent. The work that farmers used to do in hours is now done in a few minutes. This saves farm ers money and time. Therefore, more and more farmers need to adopt technology in order to make their farms more efficient and profitable. These farmers need to understand that as technology advances, the dairy industry will continue to improve as well. The future of technology in the dairy industry is in line with modern trends: drones used to scan fields, face recognition software for animals, and mobile applications used to monitor the health of the herd.
